SUMMARY:A duty to care: Mental health service responses to family violence | RANZCP
DESCRIPTION:Adjunct Professor Manjula O’Connor\, author of Daughters of Durga Founding Director AustralAsian Centre for Human Rights and Health and recipient of the Meritorious Award from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists ( Vic) 2023\, has coordinated this important session\, which I am participating in and am looking forward to lending the GP perspective to. Please share with your networks. \nA/Prof Magdalena Simonis AM\nPresident AFMW \n\nAbout The Webinar\nA duty to care: Mental health service responses to family violence\n(Including diverse populations experiencing family violence) \nExperiences of family domestic violence\, although not a mental health diagnosis can cause\, and exacerbate mental health problems\, and pose serious risk to self or others. \nEven though survivors are more likely to tell health professionals than others about intimate partner violence\, it is rare that such disclosure occurs spontaneously. Psychiatrists have a duty to care\, and must be open to the possibility of family violence at all times. \nHow common is FV in your practice? Are you more likely to see survivors? What about those from culturally diverse backgrounds? Or people who use violence? What is the trajectory of a survivor\, starting from a General Practitioners consulting room\, a referral\, followed by experience in psychiatric setting\, risk assessment\, safety planning and further referral pathways? \nThe webinar will address the above questions. \nWebinar presented by RANZCP Family Violence Psychiatry Network \n  \nDetails\nDate: 6pm AEST 11 October 2023 \nLocation: Online \n  \nRegister\nVisit the RANZCP event page \n  \n  \n  \n  \n AFMWThe Australian Federation of Medical Women (AFMW) is a not for profit\, politically neutral\, non sectarian\, non government organisation that seeks to improve the health of all Australians\, especially the health of women and children. \nEvents and Updates coordination by AFMW\, on behalf of the Australian Federation of Medical Women (AFMW)\, its affiliated Australian state and territory partners and international networks and supporters. DESCRIPTION:AMA & DEA invite you to attend this year’s webinar on Tuesday 12 September 2023 at 7-9 pm (AEST)\, where presenters will discuss the urgent need for the Australian healthcare sector to act by prioritising the transition away from greenhouse gas emissions and rapidly reducing the healthcare sector’s carbon footprint. \n  \nAbout The Webinar\nAustralia’s leading doctors call on all Australian governments and the healthcare sector to prioritise climate mitigation and adaptation policies to protect the health of present and future generations. \nThe Australian Medical Association and Doctors for the Environment Australia’s annual webinar Australia’s doctors – driving action on climate change brings sustainability experts and the medical colleges together\, to report on activities underway across the medical profession to embed sustainability and reduce emissions in health care. \nThe webinar represents a deep dive into sustainability where we will hear from our Chief Medical Officer\, Prof Paul Kelly who will highlight the work of the National Sustainability Unit and the need for a Health in All Policies approach. He will be joined by the AMA president\, Prof Steve Robson\, DEA’s Chair Dr John Van Der Kallen\, DEA’s Sustainability group co-chair Dr Eugenie Kayak and Dr Kate Charlesworth senior advisor of the Climate Risk & Net Zero Unit at NSW Health. SUMMARY:Global Women's Peace Network ASSEMBLY: A Forum for Transformative Leadership 2023 Theme: Leadership Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Proud to be invited to present at the Global Women’s Peace Network (GWPN) and speak on Leadership Resilience. The forum will be held 1 July 2023 at Mt Waverley Community Centre. The title of my presentation will be “Leadership resilience and holding up the ladder for others”. \nIt’s an area I’m passionate about\, as the representation of women in leadership roles continues to lag behind men due to systemic biases which perpetuate an ‘imposter syndrome’. Women in leadership roles have had to overcome many of these structural barriers\, thereby creating their own unique qualities. \nWith leadership comes accountability and the inherent expectation is that knowledge is passed over to others with kindness and a willingness to guide. I will share some of insights from my own leadership journey and how learnings can be transferred through mentorship. Join us on what will be an incredible day of sisterhood and learning. \nA/Prof Magdelena Simonis \n  \n  \nABOUT\nAs a project of WFWPI\, the GWPN was established in 2012 by Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and her late husband\, the Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon. \nGWPN brings together leaders\, organisations and governments to solve pressing social issues and secure an environment for equitable human development. Through peace leadership based on the feminine aspect of human nature\, GWPN seeks to ensure lasting peace and prosperity for generations to come. \n‘Leading into the Future’ with ‘heart’ and using the soft power skills of reconciliation\, peace building\, team building\, collaboration and forgiveness that naturally come to women ARE the most powerful leadership skills for the 21st Century. The Global Women’s Peace Network Assembly is held on the first Saturday of July in Melbourne. \nJoin the ‘Leading into the Future’ mentorship kick off during the Assembly \n  \nMEET THE GUEST SPEAKERS\nPrepare to be inspired\, motivated\, and equipped with valuable insights from these outstanding presenters. Their expertise will surely leave a lasting impact on your personal and professional journey. Stay tuned for an event filled with enlightenment and empowerment! \n \n\n  \n  \nDETAILS\nDate/Time: 1 July 2023\, 10am-3:30pm \nLocation: Mt Waverley Community Centre \n  \nTO REGISTER\nForum tickets are available here. \n  \n  \n AFMWThe Australian Federation of Medical Women (AFMW) is a not for profit\, politically neutral\, non sectarian\, non government organisation that seeks to improve the health of all Australians\, especially the health of women and children. \nEvents and Updates coordination by AFMW\, on behalf of the Australian Federation of Medical Women (AFMW)\, its affiliated Australian state and territory partners and international networks and supporters. Our next ‘chat’ will be held Wednesday 22 February 2023 8-9PM AEDT\, hosted by Assoc/Prof Magdalena Simonis. \n  \nAbout Circle of Kindness: AFMW Fireside Chats\nWe all have moments in life when we need a listening ear and sometimes\, it’s easier to share with someone you don’t know that well. \nI’ve been asked several times by members and non-members if we provided peer group sessions to support this\, and recently invited members to meet and set our parameters. We all agreed that there is a need for a safe space filled with kindness and trust where you can meet other medical women and talk about the challenges you’re facing\, so we formed the Circle of Kindness: Fireside Chats. \nAs President of AFMW it gives me great pleasure to launch these monthly sessions.
