SUMMARY:Webinar- Peri menopause\, menopause when does it start? Where does it stop? What to expect and how to manage the change.
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT\nAFMW President\, Magdalena Simonis is presenting to the Greek women’s forum “Food For Thought Network” on all things menopause related. \nSharing our knowledge and expertise by talking in the language of our CALD communities\, helps demystify complex issues which women of some cultural backgrounds can find embarrassing. Reasons women feel this way include feeling they don’t have the ‘correct’ words and using broken English in a clinical setting to describe  ‘hot flushes’\, ‘painful or uncomfortable intercourse’\, ‘life changes’ and ‘emotional shifts‘ need time and an opportunity for dialogue\, not a one way ‘doctor says because doctor knows’ approach. \nWomen of CALD backgrounds have poorer health literacy in their new countries and as we have learned through COVID-19\, even the general English speaking population has difficulty with ‘medical speak’. \nI’m very proud to be bilingual and have my heart in both cultures. It’s an honour to be able to give back in a such a simple way. \nMagda’s Talk\nPeri menopause\, menopause when does it start? Where does it stop? What to expect and how to manage the changes. \nIf you are going through this phase of change or you live with someone who is\, it’s important  to know the facts about Menopausal Hormone Therapy  and  non hormonal methods of treatment to support you through this phase. Women’s Health Expert\, Associate Professor Magdalena Simonis will give a talk and take questions from the audience. \n“There’s not enough discussion around menopause. Beyond hearing about hot flushes\, maybe from a TV reference\, little is known about it. Doctors rarely bring it up\, and too often\, patients dismiss the symptoms. The Food for Thought Network (FFTN) and The Greek Australian Women and Friends Around the World forum is hoping to change all that with an important discussion on “peri menopause and menopause” on Wednesday 9 June at 8.00 pm. The presentation will take place via zoom\, and everyone is welcome to join for free.” \n  \nREGISTER\nBook at https://www.trybooking.com/BRXYY\, and an email link will be sent to you. \n  \nFURTHER INFORMATION\nMore info at www.fftn.org.au or contact Varvara Ioannou\, chair of the FFTN on 0403034527 \n  \n  \n Associate Professor Magdalena Simonis AM\, AFMW Immediate Past PresidentAssociate Professor Magdalena Simonis AM is a Past President of the AFMW (2020-2023)\, former President of VMWS (2013 & 2017-2020) and current AFMW National Coordinator (2024-2026). SUMMARY:AFMW Open Forum Mar 27 - World Health Assembly - Introduction and Orientation
DESCRIPTION:TOPIC\nThis Open Forum will be an introduction and orientation to the World Health Assembly\, given in the past\, that delegate nominations are due in the first week of April. \nStart time: 4pm Qld (AEST) and 5pm Vic/NSW/Act (AEDT ) >> REGISTER Here >>\nPlease be advised that the meeting room will be open 15mins prior to allow for informal discussion and a prompt start time. MWIA members\, including AFMW members can join this virtual meeting. \n  \nBACKGROUND\nUsually MWIA allocates a number of face to face places at WHA each year\, and MWIA calls for applications. Some of you may recall being invited to our first AFMW Open Forum sessions on this topic. \nLast year\, the applicant list formed an ‘AFMW Interested in WHA’ list from which the AFMW Council chose\, and informed our VP WPR to forward to MWIA. Then history turned. In 2020\, after we had gone through a selection process\, no-one could travel to Geneva\, Switzerland as we had planned. AFMW Council then decided to open up this opportunity to all AFMW members\, and some other MWIA members joined us on our Zoom meetings too. Together\, we watched the WHA deliberations together over Zoom (many experiencing this networking media for the first time!)\, on three late nights running\, watching the World Health Assembly live\, at late night timeslots due to the time difference between Australia and Geneva. Admittedly it was a shortened WHA\, but most interesting. A particularly topical feature was the politics around exploring the origin of the Corona-19 virus in China.
