DESCRIPTION:We invite you to attend the next session in our regular series “Circle of Kindness: AFMW Fireside Chats”. Our next ‘chat’ will be held Thursday 12 Oct 2023\, 8pm-9pm AEDT (Melb/Syd/ACT) / 7pm-8pm AEST (Qld)\, hosted by Dr Kate Duncan AM. Please join us if you are a medical woman – non-members welcome! \n  \nAbout The Host\nDr Kate Duncan AM is a mentor to many and recently tried to retire\, but instead has filled her time relieving over burdened colleagues in Victoria\, Canberra and NSW\, whilst also agreeing to lead the governance overhaul of our nearly 100 year old organisation\, AFMW. \nIn 2022\, Kate was appointed as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for services to the medical profession and women’s health. \nRead Dr Kate Duncan’s Herstory >> \n  \n  \nAbout Circle of Kindness: AFMW Fireside Chats\nWe all have moments in life when we need a listening ear and sometimes\, it’s easier to share with someone you don’t know that well. \nI’ve been asked several times by members and non-members if we provided peer group sessions to support this\, and recently invited members to meet and set our parameters. We all agreed that there is a need for a safe space filled with kindness and trust where you can meet other medical women and talk about the challenges you’re facing\, so we formed the Circle of Kindness: Fireside Chats. \nAs President of AFMW it gives me great pleasure to launch these monthly sessions. Times will change so that no one misses out so watch out for our eBulletin and website. Come\, bring a friend who is not a member but would benefit from having access to our Circle of Kindness. \nThis event is open to all AFMW members and non-member guests. \nPlease share event with friends and colleagues. \n\nWhat It Is\n\nPeer support for women doctors\nKindness centred\nInformal advice – sharing lived experiences\nReflection – making time for this\nA safe space\nSessions never recorded\nNo guest speakers\nConfidential\nSessions run for up to 60 minutes – as required\nKindness centred\nTrust\nRespect – intersectionality\nFun & Relaxed\nCamaraderie / friendly\nEat your dinner with us\, enjoy a drink\, it’s casual!\n\n  \nWhat It Isn’t\n\nCounselling\nMental health support\nAFMW related – we do not discuss AFMW activities nor decide on AFMW issues outside of Council meetings\nThere is no formal meeting agenda\n\n  \nWhen & who runs them\n\nMonthly\nInterested members take turns hosting a session\n\n  \nAttend\nRegistration to this Fireside Chat is free.
