DESCRIPTION:AFMW President\, Dr Sarah Coll (She/Her) Yirrganydji Country\, invites you to attend the next session in our regular series “Circle of Kindness: AFMW Fireside Chats”.  \nOur next chat “Return to Work or School Debrief“‘ will be held Thurs 8 Feb 2024\, 8pm-9pm AEDT (Melb/Syd/ACT) / 7pm-8pm AEDT (Qld)\, hosted by Dr Desiree Yap Swei Lien AM. Please join us if you are a medical woman – non-members welcome! \n  \nAbout The Host\nDr Desiree Yap Swei Lien AM is a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist who has retired into gynaecology only with public health qualifications. Desiree has been a medical doctor for over 30 years with a varied career with an emphasis on women’s health and health advocacy and the professional development of women in medicine. Desiree’s was made a Member of the Order of Australia for her ‘significant service to women’s health\, and to medicine.’\nIn 2022\, Kate was appointed as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for services to the medical profession and women’s health. \nRead Dr Desiree Yap Swei Lien’s Herstory >> \n  \n  \nAbout Circle of Kindness: AFMW Fireside Chats\nWe all have moments in life when we need a listening ear and sometimes\, it’s easier to share with someone you don’t know that well. \nI’ve been asked several times by members and non-members if we provided peer group sessions to support this\, and recently invited members to meet and set our parameters. We all agreed that there is a need for a safe space filled with kindness and trust where you can meet other medical women and talk about the challenges you’re facing\, so we formed the Circle of Kindness: Fireside Chats. \nAs President of AFMW it gives me great pleasure to launch these monthly sessions. Times will change so that no one misses out so watch out for our eBulletin and website. Come\, bring a friend who is not a member but would benefit from having access to our Circle of Kindness. \nThis event is open to all AFMW members and non-member guests. \nPlease share event with friends and colleagues. \n  \n\nWhat It Is\n\nPeer support for women doctors\nKindness centred\nInformal advice – sharing lived experiences\nReflection – making time for this\nA safe space\nSessions never recorded\nNo guest speakers\nConfidential\nSessions run for up to 60 minutes – as required\nKindness centred\nTrust\nRespect – intersectionality\nFun & Relaxed\nCamaraderie / friendly\nEat your dinner with us\, enjoy a drink\, it’s casual!\n\n  \nWhat It Isn’t\n\nCounselling\nMental health support\nAFMW related – we do not discuss AFMW activities nor decide on AFMW issues outside of Council meetings\nThere is no formal meeting agenda\n\n  \nWhen & who runs them\n\nMonthly\nInterested members take turns hosting a session\n\n  \nAttend\nRegistration to this Fireside Chat is free.
