A council update for members and guests.
17 October 2024
We now have a new President of the AFMW, Dr Brenda Masters. Brenda is going to take us to the end of the current triennium, another 2 years.

Brenda is a member of MWS ACT & Region and has been very involved with the Council and the Executive Council of the AFMW since 2023. Most recently she was an Ordinary Member of the Executive Council, so is really up to date with the current action items and projects within the Council. Her GP Career has been multifaceted taking her to rural areas such as Humpty Doo NT, Wagga Wagga, NSW and many regional and metropolitan practices plus a stint with the British Army in Germany – all thanks to being the spouse of an Army Doctor. Currently she is lead doctor in a large Practice in Kingston, ACT. Outside of medicine, she is keen cook, skiier, an avid gardener and is a choral singer. We cannot met on Mondays because she is a staunch member of the Canberra Choral Society, their rehearsal night is every Monday. One day we want to hear this choir.
So, because Brenda has taken the President’s role, we have another vacancy in our Executive Council, we need another ordinary member of the Executive Council.
There are further changes with the resignation of the Treasurer, Evelyn Konstantopoulos and Ruby Curtis who was also an ordinary Executive Councillor. Another two Executive positions needing to be filled.
At this special council meeting on the 17th of October, we discussed that the appointment of the National Coordinator ought to follow the same process as for the President, so we are in the process of seeking nominations for this position.
For details on these positions and to nominate for them, please see AFMW Council – Casual Vacancies or contact your state team.
We are mobilising to add members to our Council team. Consider being involved, we are aching for new blood.
Remember the AGM is post Christmas and pre Australia Day – 18-19 January. It will be held in Canberra and hosted by the MWS ACT & Region.
I will be reporting on our next Regular Council meeting to be held on 2 December 2024.
