NAIDOC Week: Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Celebration – 5 July 2022

REMINDER - 5 JULY: During NAIDOC week, there will be a joint celebration for the 2021 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Recipients in Brisbane on Tuesday 5 July 2022. We will also be celebrating the launch of the inaugural 2022 NCWQ - QMWS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary sponsored by Mater. All members of the AFMW are warmly invited to participate in this event, either virtually or in person. Places to attend in person are limited however Zoom attendance is unlimited. Please RSVP by Tuesday 21 June.

Deep Dive into Dyspareunia: A multidisciplinary workshop on sexual pain – 6 Aug 2022

6 AUG: This interactive 1-day online workshop will gather a multidisciplinary team of experts to discuss, in detail, the assessment and management of dyspareunia. It will include presentations as well as interactive case-based discussions inclusive of diversity of gender, sexual orientation, culture and clinical features. AFMW member and VP WP MWIA, Dr Desiree Yap AM is one of the speakers. Find out more.

[RECAP] Proud to be invited to talk gender and climate change with my Greek friends at Food for Thought on Sunday 22nd May regarding the agency of CALD women and how we can influence our communities to advocate for renewable energy and the health of the planet. Founder of Food For Thought (FFT), a Greek Australian Women’s Group, Varvara Athanasiou-Ioannou and FFT patron Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos and I have enjoyed sharing our ideas on a variety of issues.

“Australian Women Doctors: Climate Change Advocates and Activists”, United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66) Parallel Event [RECAP]

On March 20, AFMW hosted a Parallel Event at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). This year, AFMW’s topic was “Australian Women Doctors: Climate Change Advocates and Activists”. We were delighted to present to the international audience a program including presentations by esteemed colleagues from AFMW and other important national organisations including Dr Kimberly Humphrey, Deputy Chair of Doctors for the Environment Australia; Dr Kate Wylie, Founder of Climate Medicine; and Dr Liz Rickman and Dr Sarah Burrowes from the Australian Lesbian Medical Association.
