We Care Solar Celebrates IWD

This International Women’s Day, We Care Solar celebrates the remarkable women transforming healthcare and energy access through our Light Every Birth Initiative. Across multiple countries, we are equipping women with hands-on training in solar installation, giving them technical skills to bring life-saving electricity to last-mile health facilities.

In Nigeria, the momentum is undeniable. Just two years ago, there were no women solar installers in our program. Last year, we trained six. This week, ten women enrolled in our Federal Capital Territory installer training. In Bauchi state, We Care Solar now has an all-female installation team—a groundbreaking step toward gender equity in clean energy and healthcare.

One participant, Fatima, said the training is a pathway to becoming “a confident installer.” Grace sees it as an opportunity to expand her network and deepen her expertise in renewable energy.

Their stories are part of a growing movement—where women are not just benefiting from solar power but actively leading the charge in delivering it to communities in need.

At We Care Solar, we ensure that women and girls play a central role in advancing clean energy solutions. In addition to the hands-on solar installation experience we offer to women, our We Share Solar education program gives young women and girls STEM training. Their enthusiasm is contagious as they learn to design and build solar energy systems to benefit communities.

By fostering technical skills, leadership opportunities, and real-world experience, we are accelerating progress toward a future where every mother can give birth in a well-lit, electrified health facility—and where the next generation of women leaders drive clean energy innovation.
