Introducing Ms Clancy Morgan, 2024 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Recipient

Ms Clancy Morgan Bursary recipient 2024

In 2024, AFMW awarded bursaries of $1250 to the four recipients of the 2024 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Program.

This week, we introduce to you, Ms Clancy Morgan, one of those 2024 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary recipients.

Meet Ms Clancy Morgan (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery)

Ms Clancy Morgan

Clancy is a proud Wirri woman, of the Birri Gubba Nation, born and raised in rural North Queensland. She commenced her medical studies (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) in 2024, at the Bebegu Yumba campus of James Cook University, in Townsville, Queensland.

Her family has strong ties to the mining communities within the Bowen Basin, and this is where Clancy would like to work eventually as a Rural Generalist.

In her senior school years, Clancy had leadership roles at her school, and within Zonta (President 2022). She also received a nomination for Youth Citizen of the Year for her initiative in leading a community project for government funding to assist in the refurbishment of an abandoned piano, making it available to any member of the public to play.

“I am motivated to represent all strong, Indigenous people and provide the best healthcare I can for rural, remote and Aboriginal communities across Australia.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to become a doctor.

Coming from a rural town myself, I strongly believe that smaller communities deserve the best healthcare they can get. Being an Indigenous female, I aim to bridge the gap for Aboriginal healthcare when I become a doctor.

Further in my career, I hope to specialise in women’s health, sexual health and Aboriginal Health, as it is my passion to connect with every patient and make them feel safe and understood. For me, medicine is not just a job, it is my lifestyle which I am so grateful to pursue.”

Congratulations Clancy!
