A Gender Statistics Theme Page, titled Gender @ a Glance is now online at the Australian Bureau of Statistics website. Gender statistics allow us to better understand the different situations of women and men in society and how their economic and social conditions are changing over time, e.g. their participation in education and work; their roles in families and in society; and their health, safety and general wellbeing.
Statistics on gender cut across many fields of statistics. Data are particularly used to assess differences in the circumstances of women and men, i.e. the gender gap. They are used to support research to better understand how gender issues operate in society and to assist in the development, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programs aimed at achieving gender equality.
