The Hospital Hustle: Preparing for Your Internship

Starting internship can feel exciting, daunting and everything in between. The Hospital Hustle is here to help you feel more confident, supported, and ready for the transition ✨

This interactive evening will explore the realities of life as an intern, with practical advice, honest insights, and thoughtful discussion about the unique challenges faced by women and non-binary people in medicine all in a supportive, inclusive space.

Speakers

Dr Michelle Li – PGY2, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne
Focus on education, wellbeing, and advocacy; designing junior doctor support programs.

Dr Isabelle Zupan – PGY3, Eastern Health
Passionate about education and advocacy; commencing anaesthesia training in 2026.

Dr Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bartetzko – PGY2, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne
Aspiring surgeon; active in research, sustainability initiatives, and teaching.

Dr Grace Woollard – PGY2, Western Health
Future anatomical pathologist; passionate about education, gender equality, and lab-to-bedside medicine.

Dr Anusha Maheshwari – Intern, Royal Melbourne Hospital
MPH candidate; aspiring O&G doctor with interests in gender equity and diverse health outcomes.

Dr Elisha Purcell – Intern, Royal Melbourne Hospital
Interested in plastic and reconstructive surgery; committed to research and improving care for underprivileged populations.

Dr Devangna Tangri – Intern, Alfred Health
Exploring ophthalmology and surgery; enthusiastic about advocacy and wellbeing.

Dr Mariana Dragas – Intern, Alfred Hospital
Starting BPT in 2026 with a cardiology focus; active in education, research, and advocacy through VMWS and ARDS.

Dr Mian Ng – Resident, Monash Health
Experienced job sharer moving into general practice; advocate for flexible training pathways

Dr Akanksha Mahajan- Intern, Monash Health
Starting BPT in 2026, with an interest in gastroenterology and cardiology

  • Date: Friday 17th October
  • Time: 6-8pm AEDT
  • Location: Royal Melbourne Hospital, in person or via Zoom
  • Cost:
    • VMWS students: Free!
    • VMWS doctors: $10
    • Non-VMWS students: $10 *Joining VMWS is free for students, plus gives you access to a free ticket!*
    • Non-VMWS doctors: $20
    • Zoom attendance only: FREE for VMWS student members; $5 for all other member types
