Last week the ACT & Region Medical Women’s Society gathered for the annual Celebration Dinner.
Always a lovely opportunity to catch up with colleagues and friends, this year we were delighted to have the Hon Sophie Scamps, member for Mackellar (and former GP), join us for a Q&A session hosted by local cardiologist and climate change activist Dr Arnagretta Hunter.
Discussion was insightful, lively and passionate and we all left with a feeling of hope that grassroots representation by the independents such as Sophie is giving Australians a much-needed voice in this difficult arena.
We also heard from the Medical Student Essay prize winner, Catherine Chung, who presented a beautifully articulated summary of how gender-diverse people are not well served by our current diagnostic approach to neurodiversity. We loved the way she incorporated her experiences leading a choir while at University to illustrate the issues and wish her all the best with her impending internship.
Whenever we hear from our medical students we are reminded that the future of Medicine is in safe hands!
