A council update for members and guests.
We squished in an extra AFMW council meeting on 19 September, a special Council meeting.
Your dedicated councillors zoomed in from all parts of Australia, even Europe, I think on a wi-fi connection on a European train!
So much work to be done, now that we need to fill the casual vacancy of the AFMW Presidency position. We are carefully adhering to process. This means seeking out suitable eligible candidates. The eligible candidate needs to be an AFMW financial member who has AFMW council experience. So if you are aspiring to this position in the future, do join the AFMW council at some point.
A special shout out thanks to our Vice-President Madhura Naidu (VMWS) who stepped in to take on presidential duties as the interim acting president of AFMW.
In two weeks we will meet again in another Special Council meeting to approve the candidates. Then two weeks after that we will meet again, this time to vote in a new President. Keep your eyes on this space.
Other AFMW Council business is ongoing governance and constitutional tweaking. We are working on documents to onboard new council members, keeping our library of documents in order, not easy in an organisation that is coming up to their 100 anniversary. You belong to a women’s organisation started in the age of the suffragettes. Be proud of us.
Heads up, pencil in the dates 18th & 19th of January 2025 tentative dates for our annual AGM. The Annual General Meeting is a gathering of all AFMW members who care to attend. We want to hear from you, be great to see you. Attendance can be in person or virtual by zoom. Location to be determined, not to be missed, good time for a post-Christmas getaway.
