Be a part of AFMW!
We are looking for enthusiastic medical women who would like to be part of our Working Groups and Special Interest Groups within AFMW.
Eligibility Criteria for Working Groups
- Must be a member of AFMW (if you are a member of your state medical women’s society, you are automatically a member of AFMW)
- Experience in these groups is preferred, however, this is a great opportunity for members who wish to gain some skills and experience.
Each Working Group and Special Interest Group will meet outside of AFMW Council’s meeting calendar, at the Group’s discretion, and will have at least one AFMW Council member in it to ensure there is an ongoing channel of communication between the Group and the Council. Group members are welcome to attend all AFMW council meetings, however, this is not mandatory.
Governance Working Group
The Governance Working Group focuses on establishing and maintaining effective governance practices within AFMW. Its role is to ensure that decision-making processes, policies, and structures are aligned with AFMW’s objectives, values, and regulatory requirements. Do you believe in the power of strong governance to drive organisational success? Join us to contribute to and influence the development of governance frameworks that build the foundations for a resilient and ethically driven AFMW!
RAP Working Group
The Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Group focuses on developing, implementing, and monitoring AFMW’s RAP, ensuring that it reflects AFMW’s commitment to reconciliation, and that its initiatives are effective and align with AFMW’s core values and strategic goals. Are you committed to fostering meaningful engagement with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities? Join us to design initiatives, advocate for cultural awareness and embed reconciliation principles into every aspect of AFMW!
PBML Working Group
The Purple Bush Medicine Leaves (PBML) Bursary Program, inaugurated in 2021, encourages a female medical graduate who identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to further their medical career and/or leadership aspirations. The PBML Working Group focuses on administering the Program, ensuring that the various processes within the implementation of the Program is aligned with AFMW’s policies and provides equitable access to financial support for eligible individuals. Are you passionate about the power of professional development and its ability to unlock potential? Join us to ensure our Bursary Program has the most impact where it’s needed most!

PS We are also seeking EOI for the MWIA WP Conference 2027 Working Group and AFMW Centennial Celebrations 2027 Working Group.

Dr Madhura Naidu is an Intensive Care Registrar and trainee with the College of Intensive Care Medicine with over a decade of multidisciplinary clinical experience spanning ICU, anaesthesia, surgery and palliative care.
