
Acknowledgement of Honour in Kings Birthday Award – Dr Rosalie Cooper OAM
AFMW would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Dr Rosalie Cooper on being recognised for her years of service with the award of Medal of the Order of Australia – OAM.

The QMWS and AFMW wants to congratulate Ms Kathy Cavanagh, of the National Council of Women Queensland ( NCWQ ) and Dr Beres Wenck, GP, for each receiving an AM in the recent King’s Birthday Honours.

Congratulations to AFMW members, A/Prof Magdalena Simonis AM and Dr Desiree Yap, recipients of the prestigious 2023 AMA awards at the Vic AMA Women in Medicine event held recently in Melbourne.

Having the opportunity to honour three amazing medical women is the highlight of my AFMW year. The AFMW President’s Awards followed on from our AGM which was on Saturday 12 November, 2022. The recipients each gave a moving presentation. Look out for our next series of ebulletin updates, which will feature each of our recipients.

The Queensland Medical Women’s Society (QMWS) would like to congratulate Dr Barbara Woodhouse as one of four Queensland Finalists for the 2023 Australian of the Year. She has worked tirelessly as an advocate, pioneer and leader in her field. Many AFMW members will have met Barbara in New York, at the MWIA Centennial in 2019 where she attended with other QMWS and AFMW members. There is also a guest book, administered by her colleague Dr Anna Raymond, where photos and messages of congratulations can be made and viewed (see the QRD code).

This month, the Minister for Women, Gabrielle Williams, announced the inductees to the 2021 Victoria Honour Roll of Women. Dr Skye Kinder (AFMW member), Psychiatry Registrar at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, was recognised as an Emerging Leader at the annual awards for her clinical and advocacy work for rural and other marginalised patients and their communities in addressing health inequality.

Congratulations to Dr Jill Tomlinson AFMW member, awarded a Telstra Brilliant Connected Women in Digital Health award. Jill is a member of VMWS formerly their Treasurer and webmaster and helped establish our own AFMW website years ago. Here is the interview Jill gave to Brilliant Connected Women in Digital Health.
