Dr Louise Stone, a GP and researcher, is seeking financial help with the publication of a book written as a result of her research into sexual harassment in medicine. MWS ACT & Region has encouraged her in the research and as an organisation have pledged funds towards the publication.
Sexual harassment in medicine is a serious problem which needs to be stamped out entirely. Some might already have seen the recent BBC news piece in which the highly inflammatory comments made by Dr Peter Hilton anaesthetist from Pembrokeshire made, which include, “Bullying happens. Sexually inappropriate comments and actions do occur,” he said.
Doctors from all over Australia, New Zealand and UK plus a colleague from Pakistan came together in Canberra on Monday 23rd October to address the topic of sexual harassment and abuse by doctors on doctors. Those of us present will need to take some time to reflect on the day. Assoc Prof Louise Stone, who convened the initiative, will be putting together a communique and will be posted once available.
