The celebration of Australia Day has evolved significantly since its inception, reflecting changes in social attitudes, national identity, and recognition of Indigenous perspectives. Here’s my overview of its evolution (by Dr Marjorie Cross OAM)
Here is the replay of Croaky Health Media Monday afternoon’s meeting about maintaining the momentum toward a Voice. On October 14th it will be one year since the referendum. Their message is clear that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people want us as friends and allies. It certainly is an important and timely message.

This week, 7-14 July, is NAIDOC Week and the theme for 2024 is ‘Blak, Loud and Proud’ which encapsulates the “unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity”. The theme also celebrates the unyielding spirit of communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.

On June 7 wear your crazy socks and reflect on the mental health issues that many women in medicine are experiencing around stress, burnout, micro aggressions, depression and anxiety.
On 28th May, the current Director of Medecins San Frontieres, Dr Christos Christou, addressed the National Press Club in Canberra about Humanitarian Crises and the issues for health care workers in Sudan and Gaza. Watch the address.
World Environment Day 2024, observed on June 5th, carries the theme “Restore Our Earth.” In the last Triennium, AFMW and Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA) signed a MOU and a specific interest group on Climate, Health and the Environment was initiated. Today DEA are asking for your support.
