Last week the ACT & Region gathered for their annual dinner and were treated to presentations from local Medical Women while enjoying a delicious meal and wonderful fellowship.
Professor Dipti Talaulikar spoke of her experiences as a medical woman of colour and the viral success of her online support platform which was initially set up to help sisters in the subcontinent during the misinformation phase of the Pandemic. With a shoestring budget from ANU and a lot of volunteer hours this has now settled into a global support service for medical women with a focus on diversity … bravo!
We also learned how Med Student Devashi Paliwal developed her passion for helping disadvantaged in her elective to Fiji, and Emily Tugwell spoke of her experiences in a small rural town in Queensland. Both were recipients of a Bursary from MWS ACT & Region towards their expenses. Lastly Emily Sissons, winner of our essay prize last year, presented her thoughts on gendered outcomes in healthcare.
All were passionate and inspiring – the future of medicine is in excellent hands!
