Cosmetic surgery reforms apply from 1 July

Higher standards and tougher advertising rules apply from 1 July. In the Board’s Guidelines for registered medical practitioners who perform cosmetic surgery and procedures, from 1 July 2023 all patients seeking cosmetic surgery will require a GP referral.

This is a significant change and these FAQs provide information in relation to this requirement for referring practitioners and practitioners providing cosmetic surgery.

You can read more about what’s changing and see the detail of the two updated guidelines on the Medical Board of Australia cosmetic surgery hub.
