The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. A functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it was established by ECOSOC resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946.
The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.
AFMW conduct a parallel event at each CSW.

AFMW hosted a Parallel Event at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67), 15 March 2023. Our parallel session was a fabulous success and our speakers enlightened us on the power of digital health and technology, as enablers of equity in health and gender equality when harnessed and used by women and the wider community. On March 20, AFMW hosted a Parallel Event at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). This year, AFMW’s topic was “Australian Women Doctors: Climate Change Advocates and Activists”. We were delighted to present to the international audience a program including presentations by esteemed colleagues from AFMW and other important national organisations including Dr Kimberly Humphrey, Deputy Chair of Doctors for the Environment Australia; Dr Kate Wylie, Founder of Climate Medicine; and Dr Liz Rickman and Dr Sarah Burrowes from the Australian Lesbian Medical Association. Aims of the Commission are for: Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
CSW65 is currently being held at the New York UN headquarters. This is a two week event consisting of a range of events, including official meetings, side events and parallel events, including AFMW’s Parallel event.
