IWD: Break the Bias [Video]

#BreakTheBias #IWD

This year’s International Women’s Day theme of 2022 is ‘Break the Bias’, and encourages us to imagine a gender equal world, free of stereotypes and discrimination. It asks decision makers to pose the question to themselves and others, ‘Why not a woman?’ This year, I broke away from writing an OPED for RACGP as I usually do, although the 2021 article, “Achieving Equality in a COVID -19 world” and the 2020 article, where I talked about The Secret History of our Medical Women are still highly relevant.

I enjoyed partnering with my RACGP Women In General Practice Committee friends, and we brought together this video following one of our zoom meetings in which I suggested we each video ourselves uttering a powerful one – liner relevant to the theme of “breaking the bias”. We each rehearsed on the spot, laughed at ourselves making hand gestures into the screen then sent our recorded snippets to the RACGP media team who presented them together as a story. I hope you enjoy it. Who says you can’t have fun whilst advocating for change?
