Past President Dr Sarah Coll Facebook Post [Extract]
Balancing patients, paperwork, and family life is something so many of us know all too well.
As a working parent in medicine, I see firsthand how the pressures of our profession don’t stop when we leave work—they follow us home. And too often, the voices of doctors navigating both career and family aren’t fully heard.
That’s why I’m standing for AMA Queensland Vice President.
I’m passionate about advocating for practical, family-aware solutions—flexible training and work structures, sustainable workloads, and a stronger, more connected medical community at every stage of life and career.
If you’re a medical mum or dad doing your best to juggle both worlds, I’d truly value your support.
Voting is now open—check your email (and junk folder) for your unique link.

Election for Member Elected Directors 2026-2028
AFMW wish the strong contingent of women who have nominated for Director roles in AMAQ all the best in the elections.

Dear Colleagues:
I am seeking election to the AMA Queensland Board to continue contributing my governance experience, strategic leadership and clinical insight to support Queensland doctors and the patients we care for.I previously served as an AMA Queensland Board Director from 2021 to 2024 and as President from 2022 to 2024. These roles provided significant experience in governance, strategy and organisational leadership during a challenging period for the profession. Returning to the Board would allow me to bring continuity, institutional knowledge and an experienced perspective to Board deliberations.
In addition to my service with AMA Queensland, I have served as a director across a range of organisations including private medical practices, healthcare businesses and not-for-profit
organisations. As a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, I am committed to strong governance, sound decision-making and responsible stewardship of member organisations.During my time in leadership at AMA Queensland we achieved important outcomes for doctors, including securing the payroll tax amnesty for general practice and advocating strongly for workforce sustainability and safe working conditions for healthcare workers.
As a GP practice owner, I remain closely connected to the realities facing doctors and patients across our health system. If elected, I will continue to bring experienced governance, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to ensure AMA Queensland remains strong, stable and in safe hands as it represents our profession.
Thank you for your consideration and for your ongoing support for AMA Queensland

I have served as a Director on the AMAQ Board since early 2025 and would welcome the opportunity to continue to work hard on behalf of members.
I am a GP working in traditional cradle-to-grave General Practices. I grew up in Toowoomba, and medicine is my second career – I worked in law and policy for the federal government in the early 2000s in Canberra. I had always been drawn to medicine and came home to pursue this, completing my MBBS at the University of Queensland in 2008, followed by hospital years, parenthood and my FRACGP. In addition to my clinical work, I’ve spent several years as an academic and am currently completing the AICD Company Directors Course.
My AMAQ membership, continuous since medical school, has always been a comfort to me. As the years (and governments) come and go, I am increasingly motivated to volunteer my time and skills. I have been a very active member of the AMAQ Committee of General Practitioners since 2024, was elected to AMAQ Council as a Brisbane area representative in 2024, prior to joining the Board.
I now put up my hand again to represent my fellow members at a time when we face persistent challenges including a workforce crisis, care fragmentation and constant government temptation to replace doctors with inadequately trained alternatives. A strong and sustainable AMAQ, with an energetic and forward-thinking Board, is essential for the profession’s wellbeing in Queensland. Thank you for taking the time to vote in this election.

Clarity over comfort.
My career has never followed the comfortable path. I have worked in places most systems overlook—remote communities across Australia and Canada, and in the confronting reality of sexual assault medicine. I was also the owner and principal of a solo GP practice, responsible for both clinical care and running a service. That work leaves little room for illusion. It demands honesty, accountability, and a willingness to face difficult truths.
I have sat at board tables and worked on the ground, and the disconnect between the two is often where problems begin. I have seen the consequences of decisions made too far from reality—and the cost when difficult questions are avoided.
As this organisation redefines itself, it needs more than continuity—it needs clarity. I will speak plainly, challenge where needed, and keep decisions grounded in reality. I would value your support.

I am a Senior Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, a Metro North Health Clinician Research Fellow, and an Associate Professor at The University of Queensland. I have been deeply impressed by the vision and leadership demonstrated by AMA Queensland and its Council, and by the impact of its health advocacy across the state. As an experienced senior clinician, I am committed to meaningfully contributing my expertise to advancing maternity services, doctors’ wellbeing, workforce planning, access to training positions, and IMG support.
In maternity services, I am a strong advocate for transforming care through holistic, respectful, family inclusive models grounded in multidisciplinary collaboration and partnerships with primary care. My PhD on “Forgotten Fathers” has catalysed change nationally and internationally, highlighting the critical role of fathers and non birthing parents across preconception, pregnancy and childbirth, and the intergenerational consequences of poor mental health, domestic violence and child abuse. I am equally committed to engaging and empowering consumers, including culturally and linguistically diverse communities, to improve health outcomes and ensure care is equitable and responsive.
I am focused on shaping the future of healthcare by nurturing a culture of evidence-based practice, encouraging medical students and junior doctors, and supporting them to become thoughtful, compassionate medical professionals. My broad experience across public, private and university sectors, and my track record in improving healthcare outcomes, governance and education, position me well to continue serving as an AMA Queensland Councillor and to further strengthen AMA Queensland’s advocacy for patients, the profession and the wider community.
