AFMW acknowledges and congratulates Dr Betty Ge, AFMW National Coordinator, on her election as President of AMA ACT for the 2026–2028 term. Dr Ge brings to this position a broad and well‑established professional and cultural background. Her early academic training in psychology and nursing at Peking University, followed by her medical education at the Australian National University, has provided a strong foundation for her clinical and leadership work. Since attaining her FRACGP in 2024, Dr Ge has developed a respected general practice career at Olika Medical Centre and Ochre Medical Centre in Canberra, complemented by advanced training in sexual health and family planning. Her clinical practice is characterised by a commitment to patient‑centred care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the wellbeing of clinicians and communities.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr Ge holds several key leadership roles across medical education, governance, and national advocacy. She serves as the National Coordinator of the Australian Federation of Medical Women (AFMW) and ACT Councillor to AFMW, contributing to strengthened national reporting, enhanced coordination across jurisdictions, and the advancement of AFMW’s strategic priorities in gender equity and the support of medical women. Her previous roles include Ordinary Board Director of AMA ACT, Member of the AMA Federal Council of General Practice, Council of Doctors in Training, Local Medical Educator with the RACGP for AGPT registrar training, and active committee membership within the Medical Women’s Society of the ACT & Region.
Dr Ge has demonstrated principled and effective advocacy, notably through her leadership in the ACT junior doctor overtime underpayment case, where she played a central role in elevating trainee concerns and supporting system‑level accountability for doctors in training. She has also contributed to ACT‑wide initiatives focused on respectful workplace culture, workforce wellbeing, GP sustainability, and broader medical culture reform.
Dr Ge’s election to the AMA ACT presidency represents a significant achievement for the Territory and for medical women nationally. AFMW recognises the importance of this appointment and looks forward to continued collaboration with Dr Ge as she brings her experience, values, and national perspective to this leadership role.
