Breaking: Commit to no new gas connections to homes by 2025 and to support vulnerable households to make the transition to renewable electricity

Healthcare workers gathered on the steps of Parliament to ask Victorian Minister for Climate Action Lily D’Ambrosio to support Victorians to switch from gas to renewable electricity urgently to protect their health. Our friends and colleagues from Healthy Futures and Doctors for the Environment Victoria coordinated this session which AFMW was invited to participate in, shedding light on the impacts gas in the home has on children’s health and asthma in particular.

A group of women leaders were asked, What is one thing you want to see women and girls achieve as we work to solve the climate crisis? My reply was,‘ I want to see the empowerment of women through education, access to technology and leadership of roles.Women across the globe have shown themselves to be innovators and instigators of meaningful and relevant climate action and policy. The Australia Institute’s annual Climate of the Nation Report provides a comprehensive account of changing Australian beliefs and attitudes towards climate change, including its causes, impacts and solutions. For the first time, Climate of the Nation 2022 includes a chapter on Australians’ views on transport solutions, including quantitative polling and qualitative focus group studies.
