Introducing Ms Natalie Gordon, 2023 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Recipient

The Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Program was established as part of our commitment to the reconciliation and the Makarrata Commission, to encourage and empower female medical Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates and students as they further their medical career and/or leadership aspirations. This week, we would like to introduce you to one this year’s bursary recipients, Ms Natalie Gordon.

2023 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursaries – Recipients announced in NAIDOC Week

In the spirit of the 2023 NAIDOC Week celebrations, we are very pleased to announce the outcome of 2023 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Program. Congratulations to this year’s four recipients, who are all members of the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association, and at diverse stages of their career (two medical students, one recent graduate PGY1, and one registrar in her final year of specialty training).

In October 2022, the government committed to a first tranche of funding to commence the National Health and Climate Strategy development. Thanks to Fiona Armstrong of CAHA, who inspired many, including myself as the representative of AFMW to be part of a little bit of history here. We each generously lent our time, expertise and intellect to offer advice, and to contribute to this important outcome.

NAIDOC Week Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Celebration for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women in Medicine Bursaries– Tuesday 5 July 2022

(POST UPDATED 17 July) On Tuesday 5 July 2022, we celebrated the recipients of the inaugural 2021 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursaries and the launch of the inaugural Queensland based (NCWQ QMWS) Bursary sponsored by Mater. We are very grateful to the many distinguished guests who attended and supported this event, and hope it will become a template for an annual NAIDOC event in future, to be rotated nationally.
