A big budget win for the health sector after a decade of climate advocacy | CAHA

In October 2022, the government committed to a first tranche of funding to commence the National Health and Climate Strategy development. Thanks to Fiona Armstrong of CAHA, who inspired many, including myself as the representative of AFMW to be part of a little bit of history here. We each generously lent our time, expertise and intellect to offer advice, and to contribute to this important outcome.

Health workers deliver your letter to Parliament House!

The Australian Federation of Medical Women sees climate change as the greatest risk to health. As we have seen with natural disasters, climate change has even more negative implications for women, as they are care-givers to children and elders, have less money, less access to fewer resources all of which are exacerbated when they are pregnant or have a chronic condition or are from culturally and linguistically diverse groups, refugees and First Nations people.

Our friends at Healthy Futures have put together some excellent resources we can share with our members and on our website. As doctors who are trying to decarbonise our own practices, switching to a clean energy producer is a good initial step and the Green Electricity Guide by Greenpeace is an excellent resource. RACGP has produced posters GPs/doctors can post in their clinics. Please share with your colleagues and posts in your rooms.
