The Australia Institute’s annual Climate of the Nation Report provides a comprehensive account of changing Australian beliefs and attitudes towards climate change, including its causes, impacts and solutions. For the first time, Climate of the Nation 2022 includes a chapter on Australians’ views on transport solutions, including quantitative polling and qualitative focus group studies.
In October 2022, the government committed to a first tranche of funding to commence the National Health and Climate Strategy development. Thanks to Fiona Armstrong of CAHA, who inspired many, including myself as the representative of AFMW to be part of a little bit of history here. We each generously lent our time, expertise and intellect to offer advice, and to contribute to this important outcome.
The CAHA (Climate and Health Alliance) has co-developed and signed on to a set of recommendations for governments ahead of COP27.

The Australian Federation of Medical Women sees climate change as the greatest risk to health. As we have seen with natural disasters, climate change has even more negative implications for women, as they are care-givers to children and elders, have less money, less access to fewer resources all of which are exacerbated when they are pregnant or have a chronic condition or are from culturally and linguistically diverse groups, refugees and First Nations people.
[RECAP] Proud to be invited to talk gender and climate change with my Greek friends at Food for Thought on Sunday 22nd May regarding the agency of CALD women and how we can influence our communities to advocate for renewable energy and the health of the planet. Founder of Food For Thought (FFT), a Greek Australian Women’s Group, Varvara Athanasiou-Ioannou and FFT patron Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos and I have enjoyed sharing our ideas on a variety of issues.
Another good resources from from our friends at CAHA (Climate and Health Alliance) – a resource for healthcare workers on how to reduce single use plastics in healthcare!. They have also summarised into a one page fact sheet. CAHA! They’re doing the work for so many of us. We just need to apply these recommendations.
DEA medical students and doctors co-developed a curriculum resource that maps climate change and health to the classically used organ-system teaching structure. It is an easy-to-use tool for medical educators to locate clinically relevant teaching points in each major body system.
As published by RACP, the Australian peak medical bodies co-signed a Climate change letter to MPs highlighting health impacts. Read the open letter here.
