AFMW President Award recipient 2022, Dr Merrilyn Murnane AM has authored the book “Honourable Healers: Pioneering Women Doctor” which is based on the lives of the first medical women in Australia, Constance Stone, USA Elizabeth Blackwell and UK Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. The book is sensitively written and thoroughly researched. We thank Dr Merrilyn Murnane AM for capturing their lives in this book. The Australia Institute’s annual Climate of the Nation Report provides a comprehensive account of changing Australian beliefs and attitudes towards climate change, including its causes, impacts and solutions. For the first time, Climate of the Nation 2022 includes a chapter on Australians’ views on transport solutions, including quantitative polling and qualitative focus group studies.
Having the opportunity to honour three amazing medical women is the highlight of my AFMW year. The AFMW President’s Awards followed on from our AGM which was on Saturday 12 November, 2022. The recipients each gave a moving presentation. Look out for our next series of ebulletin updates, which will feature each of our recipients.

In October 2022, the government committed to a first tranche of funding to commence the National Health and Climate Strategy development. Thanks to Fiona Armstrong of CAHA, who inspired many, including myself as the representative of AFMW to be part of a little bit of history here. We each generously lent our time, expertise and intellect to offer advice, and to contribute to this important outcome.
